Of Extremaduran origin, the musical group Furriones stands out for its unique way of performing songs that have been part of our lives, offering an innovative experience in the region’s musical scene, as well as for the passion and friendship of its members. This concert represents one more step towards that freshness—a bold leap into the symphonic field, driven by the orchestral arrangements of Salvador Rojo and the sound of the Extremadura Symphony Orchestra.
In 2013, a dozen enthusiasts and friends with different musical backgrounds founded the cultural association Música Entre Amigos. Under the guidance of a professional, the group improved its musical training and, as a result, gave its first performance at the Faculty of Library Science in Badajoz in June, which was warmly received. This marked the beginning of an unusual and exciting musical project.
Soon came the need to expand the number of members and to give the group—main activity of the association—an artistic name. Many proposals were put forward, but one stood out: furria. Its Portuguese origin (farra), Arabic root (ferha), and use in castúo, together with its meaning of “party, revelry, or spree,” led to the conclusion that Furriones was the name that best defined the group.
From then on, they continued to grow and strengthen, currently reaching nearly 40 members, divided into four vocal sections, accompanied by a plucked-string orchestra, winds, and percussion. Now, after celebrating their tenth anniversary, they face a major challenge: merging their sound with that of the Extremadura Symphony Orchestra.
With its official headquarters in the city of Badajoz, Furriones is an Extremaduran musical group, as its members come from different towns across the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz.
